Alan Yuodsnukis-Muddler Variety
Alan is an innovative tyer that has been experimenting with variations on a muddler theme that he will share with you. You will get a lot out of this session even if you have never spun deer hair.
Making Big Brushes and Flies with Nome Stark- January 30 1PM-3PM.
Learn to make the dubbing brushes that are used to tie those big flies that predators like to eat. Nome Starks owner of Predator on the Fly, will be teaching this two hour class which includes all materials, dubbing tables, vises and tools. You will walk away with two dubbing brushes minimum and a fly or two that you tie as well as ton of experience on the how-to’s of making these monster brushes that will be 4-5 inches in width.

Beginning Entomology for Fly Anglers. MSAD 11
In this class, students will learn how to recognize the differences between mayflies, caddisflies and stoneflies for both adults and nymphs. We will discuss how their behavior of these insects relate to common fly patterns, such as dries, emergers, wet flies and nymphs. We will look at both preserved and live specimens to think about how structure and movement influences fly choice. While not a prerequisite for Mayflies for Fly Anglers, Stoneflies for Fly Anglers, and Caddisflies for Fly Anglers, this course will cover information that will be used in the other classes.

Mayflies for Fly Anglers MSAD 11
Expanding on Beginning Entomology for Fly Anglers, this class will dive deeper into the different types of mayflies, their life styles and behavior, and how that relates to fly fishing. We will discuss different categories of mayflies and how common fly patterns and species relate to those categories. We will observe both preserved and life specimens to think about fly choice and fly design.

Caddisflies for Fly Anglers. MSAD 11
In Maine, Caddis is King. This class will expand on Beginning Entomology for Fly Anglers and do a deep dive into the different groups of caddis commonly found in Maine. We will explore different families of caddis, discuss how their behavior influences fly fishing, fly choice and fly design. We will look at both preserved and live specimens to explore this fascinating group of insects.

Stoneflies for Fly Anglers. MSAD 11
Expanding on Beginning Entomology for Fly Anglers, this class will focus on the group of aquatic insects known as stoneflies. We will learn about behavior, lifestyles and how to recognize the common families in Maine. We will look at both preserved and live specimens to think about how to choose flies to best imitate relevant stages of this insect.

Sampling a Stream for Aquatic Insects. MSAD 11
Anyone who has participated in Beginning Entomology for Fly Anglers Mayflies or Caddisflies or Stoneflies for Fly Anglers classes can join us for a stream sampling trip. We will learn different techniques for understanding what kind of aquatic life is found in streams, take these samples back to the class room and identify the major groups of insects and observe their behavior and movement, relating that to fly angling techniques. Waders recommended.

Nymphing with a Fly Rod (Fly Fishing- Beginner/Intermediate level). MSAD 11
Have you given it a try and haven’t caught much yet? Are you curious about Euro nymphing and want to know more about the technique? You will learn how to properly assemble a nymphing rig using strike indicators and dropper flies. Instructors will teach you how to make adjustments to your rig according to water depth and velocity on Cobbossee Stream, if water levels permit. Most importantly you’ll learn how to read water where fish are most likely found and feeding on nymphs.
Cost $20 Saturday 1PM-4PM May 13, 2023 max 8 min 2 (Bring your own rod and waders, if possible.).

Euro-Nymphing Local Waters (Fly Fishing-Intermediate level) MSAD 11
Adapting the Euro style of nymphing to Maine waters has been proven to be very effective. Participants will be introduced to the benefits of Euro-nymphing vs. the use of a strike indicators. You will learn everything you need to know from flies, building leaders, to what rods and lines to use. Euro rod outfits will be supplied for class use. Instructors will teach you how to make adjustments to your rig according to water depth and velocity on Cobbossee Stream, if water levels permit.
Cost $40 Saturday 1PM-4PM May 20, 2023 max 8 min 2. (Bring your own waders, if possible.).

Fly Casting (Intermediate Level) MSAD 11
The main subject of this course will allow you to become a more proficient angler in the utilization of various presentations casts. Learning these casts will add ammunition to your casting arsenal.
You will learn static mending, aerial mending, curve casts both positive and negative, steeple casts, and tuck casts to name a few. Static and dynamic roll casting in addition to single handed spey casting will also be part of the course. Emphasis will be placed on distance casting, double haul, casting stroke. Drift and back casting are included in this important technique.
Portions of the class will utilize videotaping to provide feedback to casters.
Instructor: Mike May: FFI Certified Casting Instructor. Bring your own rod, reel and line 5 weight or above
Additional rods and lines will be provided for comparison purposes. Class limit is 4
Location: Begins at Selene’s Fly Shop on May 10- June 17 ; Meets twice per week on Wednesday 5:00-6:30 and Saturdays from 2:30-4:00 for six weeks.
